Intensive Level 3 Matwork Pilates Training: Be Ready to Teach in One Week (Poole, UK)

If you've been searching for a faster way to qualify as a Pilates instructor without putting your life on hold for six months, an intensive Level 3 Matwork Pilates training week might be exactly what you're looking for.

This September, Fearless Fitness Training Academy is running a one-week, in-person intensive Level 3 Matwork Pilates course at Poole Pilates Studio in Dorset. The course is built for career changers and fitness professionals who want to qualify properly, quickly, and without the months-long drag of weekend-only training.

Here's everything you need to know.

What is an intensive Matwork Pilates course?

An intensive course delivers the same accredited qualification as a standard part-time course, but compresses the in-person practical training into a single, focused block - in this case, six consecutive days - rather than spreading it across multiple weekends over several months.

You still complete the required anatomy and physiology theory beforehand, in your own time and at your own pace, online. The intensive week itself is where that knowledge gets applied: hands-on practical training, teaching practice, programming, and assessment preparation, all in one immersive stretch.

For many people, especially those changing careers, relocating, or simply wanting to get qualified and start earning sooner, this format works better than committing to scattered weekends across half a year.

Is this a real, recognised Pilates qualification?

Yes. This course leads to the YMCA Level 3 Diploma in Instructing Pilates Matwork (610/4340/0), accredited through YMCA Awards, a long-established UK awarding organisation for health, fitness, and wellbeing qualifications.

Completing this qualification meets the industry requirements to work as a Pilates Matwork instructor, as defined within the CIMSPA professional standard for the role. It also qualifies you for CIMSPA's Pilates Instructor Associate membership tier - the standard pathway that demonstrates to employers and clients that you've met comprehensive training requirements to safely deliver Mat Pilates instruction. (This CIMSPA tier is specific to Mat Pilates instruction and doesn't extend to comprehensive Pilates teaching or Reformer specialism, which sit outside its scope.)

The assessment process is thorough and continues after the intensive week, typically completed within 2–4 months, with Naomi supporting you throughout. But you'll leave the week ready to start teaching and building your practical experience straight away.

EMD UK recognition and scope of practice

EMD UK is the national governing body for group exercise in the UK, funded through Sport England, and has developed an official Scope of Practice for Matwork Pilates instructors. Completing a Level 3 Matwork Pilates qualification makes you eligible for EMD UK Pro membership - professional recognition that demonstrates to employers and clients that you're trained, skilled, and working within a defined, recognised scope.

EMD UK Pro membership also brings practical benefits: access to discounted PPL music licensing credits, an extensive instructor resource library, and business support tools.

Your Matwork qualification is the gateway to Reformer

One thing worth knowing if Reformer Pilates is on your radar longer term: the EMD UK Reformer Pilates Method scope of practice (the technical specialism) requires a Level 3 Diploma in Mat Pilates as a mandatory prerequisite.

In other words, qualifying in Matwork first is not just a sensible foundation for instructors who want to follow the full Reformer Pilates pathway, it is a requirement to gain the Level 3 Reformer Pilates Method qualification. Completing this intensive puts that next step firmly within reach.

Is this course right for you?

This intensive is designed for you if you:

  • Love Matwork Pilates as a practitioner and want to turn that into a flexible, meaningful career

  • Are making a career change and want to qualify without stretching it across months

  • Are an existing fitness professional (a personal trainer, yoga teacher, or group exercise instructor) looking to add a recognised Matwork qualification to your scope of practice

  • Work best when you can fully immerse yourself in something and see it through

You'll need a solid personal Matwork practice before joining as this course builds on your existing movement foundation rather than starting from scratch. No prior fitness industry qualifications are needed, but full attendance across all six days is required.

If you need a more flexible programme that fits around commitments, or you learn best with repeated contact over time, the standard live virtual Matwork Pilates course is likely a better fit.

Tuesday's later start gives you time to travel and settle in.

From Wednesday, your mornings are for training and your afternoons are yours to explore Poole's harbour, beaches, and the surrounding area.

You'll be training in a real, working fully-equipped Pilates studio rather than a generic hired conference room, something that matters more than you might expect, since you'll be learning to in an environment with all of the original Pilates apparatus which many people never even get to see.

What will you actually learn?

The week covers four core areas:

The Matwork Repertoire

The classical Matwork Pilates exercises as developed by Joseph Pilates: their purpose, sequencing, and how to teach them correctly and safely.

Anatomy in Practice

You'll complete your anatomy and physiology learning online before arriving. Your time in the studio is spent applying that knowledge directly to movement, not sitting in a lecture.

Teaching Skills

Cueing, verbal instruction, hands-on correction, and how to develop your own teaching voice. You'll practise teaching your peers every day, with direct feedback from Naomi.

Class Programming

How to build varied, intelligent classes for different abilities and client goals, so you leave with the tools to create your own sessions, not just replicate someone else's.

Why train intensively rather than across weekends?

Standard Matwork Pilates courses delivers the same qualification across two or more in-person weekends spread over a couple of months. Both routes work, the difference is what suits you, your lifestyle and learning preferences.

If you work best when you're fully committed to something, an intensive week removes the stop-start friction of weekend-only training: no losing momentum between sessions, no juggling study around a busy diary for months. You commit to a week, you get it done, and you leave ready to teach.

Your afternoons during the week are yours to use as you choose. Some students use the time to make a head start on their assessments while everything is still fresh, bringing questions to Naomi the following morning. Others prefer to explore Poole and treat the week as a genuine few days away. Either approach works.

Why train in person rather than online?

Both in-person and live online training formats lead to the same recognised qualification, and neither is inherently superior - it depends on how you learn best and what suits your current commitments.

Where an intensive in-person week has a particular advantage is in the practical, observed elements: teaching practice, hands-on correction, and the kind of real-time feedback that's harder to replicate at the same depth virtually. If you learn through immersion and doing, this format is likely to build your confidence faster.

How much could you earn as a Matwork Pilates instructor?

With your Level 3 qualification, you could expect:

  • £25–£40/hour teaching group studio or gym classes

  • £40–£70/hour working with private clients

  • £30-£150/hour teaching your own classes in the community

  • The flexibility to build a schedule around your life

Adding a Reformer Pilates qualification alongside your Matwork opens up boutique studio work and significantly higher earning potential for studio classes.

How much does the course cost?

Pay in full: £1,600

Payment plan: £550 to secure your place, then two further payments of £550 (total £1,650). All payments must be completed by 31st August 2026.

All prices include VAT with no hidden extras. Your investment covers all six days of in-person training, your pre-course online learning content, all assessments, and your YMCA Level 3 certificate.

Getting to Poole

Poole has a direct mainline train station.

The nearest airports are Bournemouth (no direct rail link from the airport) and Southampton, which has direct trains to Poole from the airport terminal.

There is free parking at Poole Pilates Studio.

If you're travelling from further afield, Naomi can help arrange a shared holiday let so you can stay with fellow students and split the costs. Based on current options, accommodation is likely to come to around £250–£350 per person for the week - the sooner this is arranged, the better the options you'll have.

Who will you be training with?

You'll be training with Naomi Di Fabio, who has spent nearly 20 years training Pilates, dance and fitness professionals globally.

Naomi brings a deep, classical grounding in the method, paired with modern evidence-based approach. Her teaching philosophy is built around getting you genuinely ready to teach, not just qualified on paper.

With a maximum of six students, you'll have direct access to Naomi throughout the week, not a tutor you see briefly between sessions with a crowd of other students. Naomi remains available to all students and graduates and is always responsive and supportive.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really qualify as a Pilates instructor in one week?

The in-person, hands-on portion of the course takes one week, built on top of self-paced online theory you'll complete beforehand. Your assessments continue after the week and are typically completed within 2–4 months. You'll leave the intensive week ready to start teaching immediately.

Will I be able to teach immediately after the week?

Yes, your in-person training prepares you to start teaching straight away. Your YMCA Level 3 assessments will continue after the week and are typically completed within 2–4 months, with Naomi supporting you throughout.

What's included in the price?

Everything: all six days of in-person training, your pre-course online learning content, all assessments, and your YMCA Level 3 certificate. No hidden extras.

How many spaces are available?

Six. The group is deliberately kept small so you get direct, personal attention throughout the week.

What's the difference between this and the standard blended course?

The standard route delivers the same qualification across two separate in-person weekends over a couple of months. This intensive condenses all of that into one consecutive week.

Will I be able to get insurance after qualifying?

Yes, you will be required to obtain student insurance before the course begins if you do not already hold insurance. Fitness CIC (fitnesscic.org) is recommended, and a student discount is available.

Do I have to attend all six days?

Yes. Full attendance is required. The intensive format only works when you're present throughout. If you have any concerns about attendance, get in touch before registering.

Do I need an existing Matwork Pilates practice?

Yes. You should be a regular Matwork Pilates practitioner with a solid personal practice before joining. No prior fitness industry qualifications are required.

Ready to secure your place?

Six spaces. One week. No waiting around.
